Settle Flowerpot Festival

The Settle Flowerpot Festival, now celebrating its 10th anniversary, has blossomed into a delightful summer tradition that transforms this Yorkshire Dales market town into a vibrant open-air gallery. Running from 12th July – 7th September it crafts a sense of local celebration unlike any other.

What began in 2013 as a whimsical community idea by Vibrant Settle, to breathe life into quiet streets and support local traders, has grown into a phenomenon featuring over 150 eye-catching installations and several thousand flowerpots each year. Each creation, crafted by households, schools, pubs, businesses and churches, is lovingly composed of stacked and painted flowerpots, forming everything from dinosaurs and giraffes to parrot parades and even saucy bathers in the old.

A highlight of the festival is the Flowerpot Trail & Quiz. Pick up one of the three themed trails (£3 each, or £7 for all three), they lead you on a scenic 2 hour stroll around town, complete with fun quiz challenges and a free map. Trails are fully accessible for pushchairs and wheelchairs (though some slopes exist). It’s a great way to explore Settle’s nooks, independent shops, cafes and history, while hunting for quirky pot-characters along the way.

The festival not only boosts tourism; it fosters a real community spirit. Organisers Steve Amphlett, Tony Hardwick and Richard Handscombe simply inspire creativity and fun, while the town laughs, explores, and spends summer afternoons among the cheerful displays. It even caught national attention, featured in Susan Calman’s Grand Day Out and captured in a photo-book by local legend Mike Harding to support youth projects.

The flowerpot trails are perfect to explore while staying at Langcliffe Park. The Watershed Mill, just half a mile from the caravan park offers flowerpot workshops. So explore your creative side and enjoy creating your own flowerpot figures.
