What’s Special about The Yorkshire Dales
Here at Langcliffe Park we think there is so much that’s special about The Yorkshire Dales, we’ve just picked out a few things to tempt you and we’re not even mentioning the Food & Drink.
When you talk about the Yorkshire Dales lots of people think of the 3 Peaks, Ingleborough, Pen-y-Gent and the highest, Whernside. Very striking on the horizon and certainly challenging to walk up, especially if all three are done in one day, many do! If you do venture out there don’t rush, take time to look out for the pretty English Sandwort found on and around Ingleborough, the only place in the UK. Flower lovers may also be interested to look out for Lady’s Slipper Orchid as they go for a walk, the Dales has the only naturalised population in the country.
Finally Yorkshire Feather Moss is another one to tick off, found in gorges, walls, boulders and the edge of woodland. Bird enthusiasts maybe interested to know Black Grouse venture no further south than the Yorkshire Dales so keep a watchful eye if you are from the Southern counties. Others will immediately think of the famous Limestone Pavements, the National Park is home to over half of all found in the country and Malham Cove certainly showcases them in a spectacular way.
The whole countryside is adorned with far stretching deep green meadows divided by beautiful limestone dry walls, many with stand alone stone barns in the corner to provide shelter for the signature sheep scattered just about everywhere. You’ll come across Gorges such as the hidden away and quite spectacular Gordale Scar or Coniston Dib offering a narrow steep ascent up to the well-loved limestone outcrop, Coniston Pie, with great views of Wharfedale.
The main rivers, Ribble, Swale, Wharfe, Nidd and Ure mark the territory in the Dales and can be quite spectacular in wet weather many with gushing waterfalls and salmon leaping in Autumn. There’s also caves and potholes to venture in to, often described as stunning, impressive and peaceful in the same breath. We think you should come and discover everything the Yorkshire Dales has to offer, and Langcliffe Park is the perfect base to do it from.
